Making a Difference Where it Matters

Since 1979, Alain Rouveure has funded health, education and rebuilding in rural Nepal.

There's no NHS in Nepal, and school isn't free.

Every school in Nepal, including government schools, expects a child to arrive with their own uniform, books, notebooks and pencils. In rural areas where families are already struggling to eat, that puts education last on the list.

Sickness does the same damage from the other direction. There is no national health service, so one illness in the family can mean selling the land and the house to pay the medical bills.

Then the 2015 earthquakes took the houses anyway. Families lost land in the landslides, and unless they can afford a costly reinforced building there is nowhere safe to rebuild. More children than ever are being abandoned, sold or trafficked.

A reinforced frame going up in Kavre District. Concrete and steel are what survive the next earthquake, and they are what a village cannot afford on its own.

Together we make a difference
where it really matters.

Education & Health

Alain is Health and Education Adviser to Namo Buddha Higher Secondary School in rural Kavre District, two hours from Kathmandu. It has the third best grades of more than 400 schools in the district, and it has hostel places, which is why the children the fund sponsors are there.

Rebuilding

Nepal sits on a powerful geological fault. The fund has sponsored an earthquake proof community centre in Etay Village, Kavre District. It is designed to shelter 350 people when the next one comes, and it belongs to the village.

Meet Alain. He's gone back to Nepal every year since 1979.

" ... I see that my first responsibility is to my donors and friends without whom I could only do limited amount of social work with disadvantaged children in Nepal. There has to be Respect and Trust. "
